Haad Yao is on the west coast of Koh Phangan, about 20 minutes by road from Thong Sala pier. There's no airport on the island, so getting here always starts with a boat — here's how that connects to us.
Step 1: get to Thong Sala pier
Most travellers arrive via Koh Samui — fly into Samui Airport, then take a ferry across to Thong Sala, Koh Phangan's main pier town. There are also direct ferry connections from Surat Thani on the mainland if you're coming overland or by train, and boats from Koh Tao if you're island-hopping the Gulf of Thailand.
Thong Sala is the arrival point for almost everyone, whichever route you take.
Step 2: Thong Sala to Haad Yao Beach
From Thong Sala, Haad Yao Beach is about 20 minutes by taxi along the west coast road. Shared taxis (usually pickup trucks with bench seating) wait near the pier, or you can arrange a private transfer in advance.

Renting your own transport
Once you're on the island, a lot of guests rent a scooter to get around independently — Haad Yao, Sri Thanu and the rest of the west coast are spread along the coast road, and having your own bike makes exploring far easier than relying on taxis for every trip.
